| SOM Berthiot 13-100mm f/2
This one is a bit harder to find than Pan Cinors.
The Body
The lens is pretty heavy compared to Angenieux zooms of the same period. I would recommend using a lens support.
The Coating
The color of the coating is mainly orange-ish yellow with a hint of purple.
The Diaphragm
The aperture is formed by the three-blade diaphragm. Although the blades are slightly curved, the aperture still looks triangle. If the Japanese-rice-ball-like flare is what you want, this is the lens you for you. FYI, SOM Berthiot 17-85mm f/2 has a more-or-less circular aperture.
The Barrels
The closest focus distance is 2.10m / 7ft. The focus barrel shifts about 11mm when it is turned from infinity to M.O.D. The barrel rotation is approximately 300°.
The zoom barrel is way too skinny to turn without the detacheable lever. Don't loose it!!
The aperture can be fully closed. The rotation is smooth without click at each stops. Like Pan Cinor 85-2, it's good that they do indicate the T stops but it's kind of confusing. For instance, T22 would be at the right end of the red line which extends from f/22 which is indicated by the white engraving. I do not know what "FT" stands for, but when you set the aperture barrel to the mark, the aperture is fully closed. The f/stop rating is the same with Pan Cinor 85-2 at f/2 but the T stop is different (T2.66 for Pan Cinor 85-2 and T2.5 for 13-100mm).
The C Mount
Attention must be paid when you mount the lens since the lens is too heavy for a C mount lens.
The Super 16 Coverage
The lens covers Super 16 frame from around 18mm to 100mm. The photo above shows when the lens is set at 17-18mm range. The measurement was given through viewfinder, so film test is yet to be done for an accurate measurement.
